The place

Hotel Escondido keeps to the quiet northwestern side of Puerto Escondido — a scatter of breezy open-air bungalows under traditional palapa roofs, right on the white sand.

The 16 stand-alone bungalows have wooden floors and stucco walls, brightened by colourful contemporary furniture. Each holds a small private pool and a sundeck, the beach a few steps beyond and the coastline in full view. Plush bedding, wifi, little else needed.

In front of it all, a 50-meter infinity pool faces the water, with plenty of space to lounge — a place to read until the light changes. The spa offers treatments and massages, and the all-day restaurant moves between Mexican and international dishes.
