The place
A bank first, then a music conservatory. The 1897 building now holds one of Amsterdam's most assured hotels, reworked by Piero Lissoni into something precise and contemporary without losing the grandeur.
The 129 rooms and suites keep to a neutral palette edged in black — sleek furnishing, wooden floors, a work desk, a bathroom cut from travertine.
Below, an indoor pool, a gym, a jacuzzi, sauna and hammam. Taiko serves an Asian-inspired menu built on local produce; the Brasserie carries the day from morning on.
