The place
A Renaissance Revival building in downtown Los Angeles, once a private club in the 1920s. Kelly Wearstler shaped its public rooms with cues from Mexico, Portugal, and Spain — vintage and custom tiles, eclectic furniture, warm wood.
The 147 rooms and suites lean residential. Hand-raked plaster walls, woven textiles, vintage antiques, a palette of neutral, teal, and deep yellow. Among the suites: one holds a large indoor pool, another was once a basketball court.
On the roof, a pool laid in checkered tiles, ringed with plants, the Angel City skyline beyond. A 24-hour fitness center sits below. Of the three places to eat and drink, Cara Cara is the one to know — breezy, rooftop, Mexican and Latin flavors.
