The place

Hotel CIGNO occupies a 19th-century building near Merida's Centro district, once a private home. Past the French blue facade, the interior opens into lush greenery and blue mosaic tile — an oasis inside the city.

Ten rooms and suites, in white and wood, with cozy furnishings and a terrace each. Some suites keep a private plunge pool. The rest is quietly covered: good bedding, a desk, a TV, wifi.

At the center, an outdoor pool with loungers alongside — a place for a slow morning or a refreshing dip. CIGNO, the al-fresco restaurant, builds a sophisticated menu from fresh local produce.
