Onomichi, Japan
Hotel Cycle Onomichi
The place
A 1943 shipping warehouse on the Onomichi waterfront — Prefectural Warehouse Uwaya No.2 — reworked by Suppose Design into a hotel for cyclists. The route along the water is among the most scenic in Japan; the building keeps its industrial bones, rustic and modern at once.
The 28 rooms each hold a bike hanger. Grey walls, dark wooden furnishings, stone accents. Bingo denim pajamas folded on the bed, local textiles, a bathtub, organic toiletries.
Downstairs, a lifestyle design shop and a full cycling store, with rental and maintenance handled on the spot. Four places to eat and drink, among them The RESTAURANT, cooking simply with fresh seasonal local produce, and KOG BAR, for cocktails and snacks.
