The place
Shiroiya Hotel, in Maebashi, was renewed in 2020 behind its white 1970s facade. Step inside and the building opens into a soaring central atrium — raw concrete beams, greenery, lighting pipes weaving through the void. Contemporary, rustic, a little futuristic.
The 25 rooms were shaped by different designers, so no two read alike. Exposed brass pipes here, raw concrete ceilings there, one outfitted entirely in wood. Curated artwork throughout.
Three saunas wait on site. At the RESTAURANT, created by chefs Hiro Katayama and Hiroyasu Kawate, a tasting menu is composed around local heritage ingredients.
