The place

Four historic houses in Kingston, in New York's Hudson Valley — the oldest dating to the 17th century, the rest to the 19th. Hotel Kinsley lets each building keep its original architecture, then furnishes the interiors with a quiet mix of Scandinavian minimalism and mid-century design.

The 42 rooms and suites mostly hold to a neutral palette; a few go richer. Bespoke headboards, vibrant Turkish rugs, mid-century pieces. Frette linens on the bed, Carrara marble tile in the bathroom, a SMEG fridge in the corner.

An infrared sauna waits at 301 Wall St and 41 Pearl St, open to all guests, along with a private massage room and a small fitness studio — treadmills, a bike, free weights. At Restaurant Kinsley, the menu is seasonal New American, built on fresh local produce.
