The place

A narrow concrete building on Taipei's western side, its windows set at odd, deliberate intervals. The idea was a film box, and from the street it holds that line.

Inside, the mood turns warm. Wooden floors, colorful furnishing, a lobby that softens everything the facade suggests. One hundred seventy-five rooms and suites in white, yellow and wood, each with a king bed, a bathtub, coffee at hand.

A fitness center with machines and free weights. A Starbucks on the ground floor for a quick coffee. No restaurant on-site, but plenty to eat just steps from the door.
