The place

In the small town of Porto Ercole, in Tuscany, La Roqqa revived an old hillside building and kept its deep, unmistakable red facade. Inside, Milan studio PS+A channels the Dolce Vita of the 1960s, with sustainability written into the 5-star hotel's approach.

The 55 rooms and suites keep to contemporary furnishings and terrazzo floors, each opening onto a private balcony.

The quiet centerpiece is Isolotto, the hotel's beach club on the bay of Monte Argentario — day beds by the water, a signature cocktail and a light bite on the seaside terrace. Back at the hotel, Scirocco serves Tuscan cooking from traditional recipes all day, and a 24-hour fitness center waits for whoever wants it.
