The place
On the corner of Woodward Avenue, an early-20th-century terracotta-clad building — opened as a hotel by Shinola, the Detroit watch company. Gachot Studios gave the communal spaces a chic nostalgia: Mid-Century furniture, curated artwork.
The 129 rooms and suites refine the same language. Neutral and deep blue, earthy bespoke furnishing, velvet sofas, loft-style windows, handcrafted woodwork, marble accents.
A fitness center holds machines and free weights, and dogs are welcome. Five places to eat and drink sit on-site — among them San Morello, an Italian restaurant drawn from the flavors of Southern Italy and Sicily.
