The place
The former Whiteley's department store, near Paddington, remade as an urban retreat. AvroKo drew on London's Art Deco heritage for the interiors; the 109 rooms keep to muted hues, with curved contemporary furniture, Naturalmat bedding and organic bath products.
The spa runs to 2,300 square metres — a still indoor pool, a Turkish hammam, a fitness centre open around the clock. Whiteley's, the hotel's culinary thread, moves through kitchen, cafe and bar: fire-led cooking on one side, cocktails built from seasonal cordials and house-made ferments on the other.
