The place

Three historic palaces and an apartment building on the hilltop of Colina Sant'Ana, near Baixa. Built across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, they keep a royal bearing inside and out — lofty ceilings, dark wooden floors, vintage-inspired furnishing.

There are 33 rooms and suites across ten categories. Some suites add a private terrace and a jacuzzi or bathtub; the ceilings stay high throughout.

The courtyard is the reason to linger: two outdoor pools set against the city skyline. Of the three places to eat and drink, 2Monkeys holds one Michelin star and a playful fine-dining menu, while Black Pavilion serves casual modern dishes in the open air.
