Troutbeck

The place

Troutbeck has stood on 250 acres of Hudson Valley countryside since 1765, its guest book running from legendary poets to presidents. A 2018 refurbishment gave the estate a modern reading of the old English country house — contemporary and vintage pieces side by side.

The 37 rooms and suites lean contemporary. Some rest in classic brown, others in teal or pale green, with details like Marcel Breuer's Cesca chairs. Italian linens, Malin+Goetz toiletries, a TV, free wifi — the essentials, quietly handled.

Outside the house, an outdoor pool sits in the greenery with lounge beds at its edge. There are tennis courts, a fitness center, a dry sauna, a yoga studio, a library. The Dining Room serves a fresh farm-to-table menu all day.
