Château Royal

The place

In the center of Mitte, Château Royal joins two heritage-listed buildings with a new one by David Chipperfield. The interior reads as a contemporary take on Berlin's former heydays — velvet, oak, and marble, the materials the old city favored.

No two of the 93 rooms and suites are alike; each was shaped by a different artist. Dark wood and jewel tones, vintage pieces beside contemporary ones, parquet underfoot. In the bathrooms, handmade Craquelé tiles catch the light.

Restaurant Château Royal keeps to a Mediterranean menu — traditional techniques, seasonal local ingredients. Beside it, the bar mixes hand-crafted cocktails against an acclaimed wine list and succulent light bites.
