The place

A clean Portuguese modernist building in the heart of Faro, built by Joel Santana in the early seventies. THE MODERNIST takes its cues from its own facade; the interior stays true to a Mid-Century line throughout.

Six apartment-style rooms in white, reddish brown and sage. Artisanal wooden furniture, brass fittings, green marble catching the light. Each comes with a kitchenette and a private balcony.

Up top, a scenic rooftop with an outdoor shower; below, a framed garden with places to sit. There is no restaurant, but Faro provides — Restaurante Alameda, with its modern cuisine, is a favorite.
