The place
A Romanesque bank building from 1885, in the center of Wilmington, Delaware. Behind the historic stone facade, the rooms lean quiet and contemporary — Shaker lines, patterned wallpaper, a Turkish rug underfoot.
The 24 rooms and suites are dressed with Belino linens and Aesop bath products. Nothing loud. A fitness center with machines and free weights stays open around the clock, and there is a rooftop besides.
Downstairs, three places to eat and drink. The Quoin Restaurant, from chef Joe DeLago, works Northern Italian fare over a wood fire. Simmer Down pours classic cocktails in an opulent room, light bites alongside.
